2 Firefighters Hurt Following Hwy. 401 Tractor-Trailer Crash in Clarington

On Oct. 10, 2025, a tractor-trailer rear-ended a fire truck on Highway 401 in Clarington — a municipality east of Oshawa — sending 2 firefighters to hospital.

What Happened?
- According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the incident occurred in the westbound lanes of the highway near Newtonville Road around 2:30am ET on Oct. 10.
- A fire truck was assisting emergency crews who were responding to an earlier collision in the area.
- “A tractor-trailer collided into the rear of that fire truck. 2 firefighters inside that vehicle were taken to hospital,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video on X (formerly Twitter).
- The injuries that the firefighters sustained aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
- No injuries were reported for the driver of the tractor-trailer.
