“Very Preventable”: 3 Dead, 2 Critical Following Head-On Crash Near Pickering

Incident Details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal head-on collision on Highway 7 near Pickering.
- Emergency crews responded to reports of a serious collision near Concession Road 6 around 7pm ET on July 15.
- The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle in the eastbound lane, an 82-year-old woman of Port Perry, was pronounced dead at the scene.
- 2 female passengers in the back seats of the westbound vehicle, a 63-year-old resident of Markham and a 68-year-old resident of Scarborough, were also pronounced dead.
- “Absolutely horrific knowing that three people have lost their lives in a very preventable crash, as we’re trying to understand what the circumstances were that led to this collision,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a news release.
Investigation Updates
The cause of the fatal collision remains under investigation. Speed, alcohol, and weather don’t appear to be factors at this time.
