Personal Injury – Important Legal Information
Each year, the Ontario personal injury lawyers at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP are contacted by people who are injured in car accidents and slip and falls. Some injuries are light and some are very serious. Most people are unaware of their legal rights. Unfortunately, many lawyers do not take the time to explain in detail all of the options and benefits that may be available to an injured individual and their family. We do.
Below are important legal tips for you, your family and friends in the event of an accident. We hope you find them helpful.
Car Accident – Personal Injury Legal Tips
- Call the police if anyone is injured, or if there is vehicle damage exceeding $1,000.
- Go to the hospital and/or family doctor the same day for a full examination.
- Many people develop headaches and pains throughout their body (neck, back, etc.) the days following an accident. It is important to note these pains and go to the hospital and/or family doctor immediately if you feel such pains.
- There are strict deadlines for applying for “accident benefits” (including income replacement benefits, housekeeping benefit, rehabilitation benefits, caregiver benefits, etc.)
- You have 2 years from the date of the accident to sue the driver and/or owner of the vehicle(s) that caused the accident.
Slip and Fall – Personal Injury Legal Tips
- Record the date, time and location of your fall.
- Take photos as soon as possible of the area of the fall.
- Visit the hospital and/or family doctor the same day of the fall for a full examination.
- If you fall on City property (i.e. sidewalk), you have 10 days to notify the City in writing of a potential claim.
- You have 2 years from the date of the fall to sue the owner of the property.
We pride ourselves on our knowledge, experience, and client-oriented philosophy.
Please do not hesitate to call if you or anyone you know need an Ontario car accident lawyer or slip and fall lawyer, or have any questions relating to an injury claim.
