Incident details

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate following a collision at a residence in Oxford Station — east of Smiths Falls.

“Around noon on May 9, an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on the property of a residence in Oxford Station,” the SIU said in a news release.

“In the driveway of the residence, the personal vehicle being operated by the officer struck a 15-month-old boy. The child was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.”

Officials added that the child is in stable condition.

Witnesses sought

Anyone with information on the collision, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SIU’s lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The agency examines police conduct in incidents that result in serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, allegations of sexual assault, or death.
