B.C. lifts work mask mandates, employee rights: Lawyer on CHEK
As most COVID-19 health restrictions lift across the province of BC, workplaces are once more adapting to the comfort levels and concerns of employers and employees. What can employers and employees do if they wish to keep mask mandates in place?
A Vancouver employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP spoke to CHEK News, where she explained that employees can take appropriate measures to ensure their own safety.
“An employee has a right to be safe in the workplace, so if somebody wants to wear a mask, just like if they wanted to pack hand sanitizer or carry kleenex, or anything that helps keep them safe in the workplace,” noted the lawyer.

The lawyer goes on to explain that employers also have the right to require mask-wearing, even if their employees disagree.
